My first color scheme was brown and green or, as I liked to say, sage and espresso. Green is my favorite color (any shade) and brown just seemed like a great match and a good shade for Fall. As I searched our prospective venues, my mind started to change. The main reason for this is because of rentals. For sage and espresso, I was going to need linens. Then, if the venue didn’t provide the proper chairs, either rental chairs and/or chair covers. My other reason was that several of the venues I visited were setup for weddings…with that same exact color scheme. Now, I’m not trying to kid myself and think that I’m the only bride in the world with this color scheme, but, at the time, I didn't know it was that popular.
As I thought more and more about the wedding I wanted, and looked at inspirational pictures online, my thought process for our wedding took a 180. Black and white. That’s it, no other colors, just black and white. Plain and simple, elegant and understated. My mom, never having had a true wedding of her own, is very traditional. I was sure this was going to make her throw some sort of a protest, but she didn't. The very first thing out of her mouth (and, coincidentally, Mr. Hydrangea’s mom as well) was “oh good, I can wear black!”
With that said, I was off to start my new plan for my black and white wedding. It, just so luckily, turns out that this scheme works perfect with the W Hotel. Black linens are provided for us, their chairs are modern, black leather chairs, and the carpet of the pre-function and ballroom is black with silver accents.
Right now I’m playing with various ideas of how to make my black and white theme really stand out and become fun. I know that my new color scheme is now just as popular as my original color scheme, but this one is going to stick. I just love it that much. How many times did you change your color scheme? Does anyone out there have some good resources for black and white wedding ideas?
Here's an inspiration board I found on Black White Bliss, but I also recommend checking out our very own Miss Chickadee's inspiration board as well!
